Thanks for your time today.  The donations have definitely been approaching critical mass, and I support moving things in the other direction for now.
 
Hopefully it won't have to be a permenant policy, but I agree this is a good problem to have.

Greetings, all.

Today Tim and I did a bit of rearranging in the space: we tore down one
of the rickety shelves, moved the lockers to a better/safer location,
and consolidated some of the tools/supplies into the metal shelves.
During this process, one thing became clear: we have more donated
materials and supplies than we can currently handle :(

In the future, we hope to be able to move into the downstairs level.
This will give us more storage room, but we're not there yet.  The
unfortunate truth is we need to clear up a lot of space.

Tim and I took a few hours to pull out donations that we're not sure
about.  These include items that didn't seem to us to have an immediate
use for the group as a whole.  It was hard to do, and I'm sure we were
over enthusiastic with some of our choices.  Here's how I propose we
handle the situation:

1) At our next group meeting (Monday, 2 September), we as a group need
to decide what goes and what stays.  We warned, though: we simple don't
have the space for almost any of it.

2) If you can't make the next group meeting, swing by the space during
open house and make a note of anything you feel should stay.  You can
cast that "vote" with whomever is holding group hours.

3) If you've previously dropped off any of the items in the quarantine
pile and would like them back: take them back!  This will save us from
making a tough decision.  *Important*: only take anything you dropped
off.  If you didn't donate it, you can't take it from the space.

4) After the next meeting--probably the day after--anything left in the
quarantine pile will be taken to SPCA/Goodwill.

5) After this, we will implement a inventory system.  Nothing can come
into the space without approval, and everything must be entered into our
inventory list and stored in an assigned location.

Hopefully we'll be able to relax this in the future.  Until then,
however, we simple don't have the space for all the materials we're
taking in.  When you think about it, though, it's actually a pretty good
problem to have!

Please feel free to discuss in this email thread.  We'll have a big
discussion at our next meeting, but it would good to shake out any small
questions here.
