[dcw] Name update

I was one of those at the meeting in the 'creative name' camp.

I think a creative name has the roll of adding texture to the space's description, giving a sense of curiosity to potential members and a little reminder to current members to think creatively about what they do in and with the space.

Re: The explanatory roll of the name, I don't really see why it is so much harder to say "I'm a member of [awesome name], the Davis Makerspace" vs saying "I'm a member of the Davis Makerspace".

Re: Name of space vs name of group, I agree with Robbie that the space itself could have the creative name and the domain, etc, could just be Davis Makerspace. This too came up during the last meeting, e.g. a model similar to "Davis Bike Collective" (the group) vs "Bike Forth" (the space). There was some concern that this could cause confusion, but I am currently unconvinced.

In fact, once we have a space, that might serve to better inspire a name tailored to the particulars or peculiarities of the space itself. E.g. "Bike Forth" as they are on 4th.

Though really the only reason I'm not saying that we should just have one name and for it to be a creative one is because in the end we really just need to move forward on something that can get us a label to use for various resources (website, mailing list, social media, legal entity, etc). And, apparently, none of the current creative names proved very inspirational, which in the end would be the whole point of the such a name.

The main reasons put forth was that it was very easy to communicate to new people interested in joining (Davis Makerspace would be much more recognizable and wouldn't require much further explaination), and that domain space was easy to get. (Please chime in if there were more reasons.)

This seems like a computer listened in on the name discussion and picked a name based on keywords and picked what got said most. that is all for my rant .. i was not there so hard or me to complain but i prefer almost any name on the list over this one.

However, in the end, we all agreed that this name would make things much easier (obtaining a domain name for example). If you were not able to attend and are strongly opposed to the name let's discuss it in this thread. If there are no objections we will make it official at the next meeting and begin work on fun stuff like registering a domain name and setting up a website.
