Hi Nicholas --
I've been studying that vacuum printing method (I showed you the video by Aaron Bartholl), and I think it would be a very good tool to have in our repertoire.
I found a supplier of suitable plastic sheets; about $2.00 to $3.00 per square foot. And I'm willing to build the machine and learn how to make a few molds.
The LED part would be easy, too.
Can we get some help designing the artistic part?
I'd suggest that we get moving on this NOW if we want to be rock-steady-ready in time for Halloween! Can we have a meet-up to get started?
Creepy fun!

So below is a message I
received from Sandy Thai (the ArtAbout coordinator over at
the DDBA, also co owner of Rockband University in town) who
was really enthusiastic about DMS and also very helpful
despite my procrastination. It sounds like they could be a
great publicity channel for us! I had suggested we do some
Halloween themed projects for Artober, and one suggestion
was that we 3d print some skulls and then have people
install LEDs in them. Tim suggested doing vacuum form
masks which I think is a great idea. Is this something
people would like to do? As you'll see below she has
offered us space on the E Street plaza for the Dia de los
Muertos festival on Oct. 31st (which coincides with the
Treat Trail). I know that Jordan and the other parents can
attest to the wide attendance at that event.
Any thoughts?

Such a small world! Yes, we are still on
Olive and just took over Suite L for our recording studio.
Thanks for the info.
You guys are all set for September (unless you
have an image you'd like to include).
I told Nina about your skull/LED light idea for
ARTober and she also loves it. She wanted me to check with
you guys to see if you'd be interested in doing that
particular project for our El Dia de los Muertos Festival.
On October 31, we have Treat Trail and a large dia de los
muertos event at the E Street Plaza that will feature a
large, artist created altar, live music, poetry, dance
performances, etc... Nina said that you guys could have a
table there to promote your space and show an example of the
LED skull, then invite everyone to come to your workshop
after the event to take part. What do you think?
The vacuum form
project also sounds great. It would be awesome to have you
guys featured for multiple days. Thanks for all your ideas
and getting into the ARTober spirit!
