Fellow Makers-
Announcing Operation Art-Bots!
Here's the plan:
First, we build some art-bots. I'm thinking something similar to
this<http://vimeo.com/27950453>.
Then, we invade (get a booth at) the Davis Flea
Market<http://daviswiki.org/Davis_Flea_Market> (last
Sunday of each month). We hook it up to a webcam, phone app, etc. and
people can come by, snap a picture and have their portrait (or their dog's
portrait) drawn on high-quality artist paper... BY A ROBOT. In return they
will give us a completely fair and reasonable amount of US currency, Davis
Dollars, bit coins, etc.
Who's needed:
Anyone. Seriously, anyone even remotely interested should partake. If you
like art and/or robots join us (or be assimilated, your choice). This
project will involve software, hardware, and general makerly skills so
there is room for everyone.
Pros:
* generate some startup money for space/tools
* people overcome by the awesomeness of robots+art will decide to join us
and we will have more people to make stuff with (and eventually help pay
rent)
* we get to build a robot
* see previous bullet point (I mean it's a robot... that draws)
Cons:
* None. There is literally no downside to this.
What's next:
We should meet up sometime next week to plan the build. After work is
probably best so let's shoot for around 7:30. If you are interested let's
try to agree on a day in this thread. I'm going to throw out Thursday (but
I'm flexible so if you have a conflict we'll work something out).
Also:
While I think that we can successfully hold down the Davis Flea Market with
a single art-bot, it may not technically count as an invasion. If you have
some other ideas for bots (art or otherwise) our robot army is always
looking for a few good bots.
