Nice!  Tim, as always, your contributions to the space are awesome!  Thank you for putting all the extra time and energy into these little touches, (even though you don't have to).

Subject: [dms-discuss] Improved Giant VU Meters

January 10, 2014

Hi gang --

Happy New Year!

During last night's shift I rewired the Giant VU Meters a little. Now they always shows the strength of the music, regardless of how loud you have the stereo turned up. I did that because a few of you said you'd prefer it that way, so that you could watch the pretty lights without deafening yourselves
in order to get all of the lights to turn on.

Of course, this means that if your music is pretty quiet, the meters won't turn on as much. That's the way VU meters work in a recording studio or a radio station. You can think of the meters as "record level indicators" (in fact, they are now connected to the TAPE MONITOR REC outputs of Nick's stereo receiver, instead of to the speakers).

With Nick's OK, I also put a sticker on the stereo receiver: Please use the white power strip on the floor to turn the stereo (and the Giant VU Meters) on and off. There's another sticker on the filing cabinet, too.

I hope to see y'all at Monday's meeting.

Make Happy Noise!

Regards,
Tim F
